The hot-topic trend has been revered for championing capsule wardrobes, while being questioned for its ultra-exclusive, you-can’t-sit-with-us feel. But in a design studio, based in the heart of Amsterdam, a pioneering activewear brand is changing what quiet luxury means. Delivering high-quality fashion that feels luxurious without being a luxury to own – meet Lune Active.

Hot off its launch at Bandier, we sat down with the Lune Active team to get the scoop on their design philosophy, what quiet luxury means to them, and how they marry sustainability and fashion.

WE JUST WELCOMED YOUR BRAND TO BANDIER! TELL US HOW LUNE CAME TO LIFE.

We founded Lune Active for the conscious woman looking for uncompromised quality and a clean aesthetic while causing the least amount of harm to the planet. We saw a lack of products that were effortless and chic, but also had a modern sensibility. Lune Active was created to fill that gap. We’re driven by the passion and vision of three strong women, Lisa de Vries, Ashley Samwell and Karine Laforest. They’re united by the same thing: creating the highest quality of active fashion in the most sustainable way possible.

LUNE ACTIVE’S CLEAN AESTHETIC GIVES US QUIET LUXURY VIBES, BUT YOU DON’T COME OFF AS A TYPICAL LUXURY BRAND. WHAT MAKES YOU UNIQUE?

The ultra-exclusivity of luxury is not something we want to be part of. To us, quiet luxury is about feeling like a million dollars, and achieving it in beautiful, simple products. That’s the kind of luxury we champion. Our unique fabrics boast a luxurious feel and elevated quality that can rival traditional luxury apparel.

Looking good shouldn’t be tied to logos or price tags. We love that anyone can find “luxury” now and look great by selecting timeless pieces for their wardrobe. Less is once again more.

WE LOVE YOUR FASHION PHILOSOPHY. HOW DOES A LUNE ACTIVE DESIGN GO FROM SKETCH TO FINISHED PIECE?

We pride ourselves on blurring the lines between sportswear and daywear; women should be able to wear something that can play in both worlds.

Our designs revolve around creating a modern uniform that emphasizes clean lines and soft shapes. The goal is to balance technical innovation and iconic design to fit the active lifestyle of today’s sophisticated and conscious woman.

We explore a variety of sustainable fabrics that create warm and delicate textures for a fashion that feels as good as it looks. Each piece is designed with the aim of creating luxurious athleisure essentials that combine style, comfort and function. Our version of quiet luxury echoes the subtle yet sophisticated approach, but we never set out to make anything that fits a specific trend. Sustainably-made clothes should be a timeless luxury that is accessible to all and if our polished activewear makes women feel luxurious, then we have done our jobs.

SUSTAINABILITY REALLY FEELS LIKE A CORNERSTONE OF THE BRAND. HOW DO YOU INTEGRATE A SUSTAINABLE APPROACH WITH YOUR DESIGN PHILOSOPHY?

All our pieces are made with love and passion. Lune Active cares about using the right materials by constantly exploring high-quality, sustainable fabrics. We’ve designed pieces with fine fibers such as organic cotton, recycled polyamide mixed with modal, and recycled polyester. The Q-Nova fabric is particularly incredible; it’s a fully traceable yarn that blends polyamide and recycled polyamide to compress and shape the body.

A large part of sustainability is not just creating products sustainably, but using them sustainably for a lifetime. By making season-less styles that are meant to be worn year-round (and for many years), we are trying to create pieces that will not end up in the landfill after just a season.
